Fashion Trends for 2025

Writer: Sharon KornsteinSharon Kornstein

I hope that 2025 is off to a good start for you! This month I'm covering the themes that I believe will dominate your closet until spring. We begin with color, then go into looks seen at the Golden Globes, athleisure (what I am wearing most of the time these days), and lastly, another easy way to dress - monochromes.

Mocha Mousse and Colors

When Pantone announce Mocha Mousse as the color of the year for 2025, I know many people weren't excited. Brown has a bad reputation as many consider it boring, bland and unflattering. I disagree. Brown can be as elegant as black, and is flattering for both warm and cool complexions. Mocha Mousse specifically is a rich neutral, which looks great on its own, and can be paired with pink, deep red, ecru or forest green; along with black. If Mocha Mousse is not your favorite, try it in small doses such as shoes, a handbag or nail polish.

Other colors that you will see more of this year include teal, deep plum, hibiscus (a saturated reddish coral), and airy blue, a medium pastel blue.

Golden Globe Influence

The Golden Globes were broadcast sadly just three days before the LA fires. Looking back I will not publish as many celebrity looks as I had planned, but mention some of the style trends we saw. These themes can be carried forward to spring weddings and other parties. There was a lot of black, specifically structured dresses with deep v-necklines, some with a metallic belt. Many, like Dakota Fanning, wore self-tie scarves or sashes, off the shoulder or asymmetrical looks. We also saw many fitted body-con styles, and rich hues of red, emerald green and sparkling taupe. Some other black tie trends include: Metallics (Mindy Kaling), Black Opera Gloves (Kerry Washington and Ally Wong), and Monochromatic (Selena Gomez, seen below with Benny Blanco).

Monochromatic

Monochromatic dressing appears at all levels of style, price and formality. At the Golden Globes we saw it as celebrities matched their handbags and shoes to their dress (Selena Gomez, in airy blue). Blake Lively wears it in a casual, butter yellow outfit that matches her hair. We see it every day in matching sweatshirt/pants outfits. And we can achieve it in daily wear with a flattering color top, matching pants and belt. Monochromatic dressing (with the right colors) is flattering and slimming. However it is not the right look to make a strong impression or to stand out from the crowd. I suggest more contrast for that.

Athleisure Wear

As a person who now spends part of the year in Florida, athleisure has become an integral part of my wardrobe. If it is unclear, athleisure is athletic looking wear, that you don't need to play any sports to wear! Athleisure are those comfy clothes that feel as good in the house, as when you are out and about. They are easy care and affordable at any price range. No wonder they're so popular! A few of the athleisure lines I like are Tail, Sofi Bella, Denise Cronwall and Athleta. They're great for pickleball, tennis, golf, yoga, or just hanging out!
